WIC is a nutrition program for families that include women who are pregnant or have recently had a baby, infants and children up to five years of age. Other caregivers such as fathers, step-parents, grand parents and foster parents may all apply for children under the age of five living in their household.
The WIC program provides three primary services to clients:
- Nutrition education and counseling for healthy diets and growth during pregnancy, infancy, and childhood
- Referrals to other agencies as appropriate
- A supplemental food package tailored to the individual
